Starsky’s two-door 1974 Ford Gran Torino with the trade mark red & white vector stripe is 'the Striped Tomato'. Regularly seen tearing around the streets of fictional ‘Bay City, California’ the car icon is the star of the 70's TV show 'Starsky & Hutch', call sign 'Zebra 3'.

Michael Glaser (Starsky) when first shown the Torino sarcastically said to David Soul (Hutch), 'That thing looks like a striped tomato' & took an immediate & long-lasting dislike to the car. He was right, the stock Torino wasn’t fast enough & had to be modified for chase & stunt scenes. It was a poor handler too & had to have bucket seats fitted to stop Hutch sliding onto Starsky’s lap during high speed right handers.

Two undercover police officers using a bright red, two door Torino is another story!

Starsky crashed into as many kerbs, trash cans & dumpsters as possible to spite the Torino as you can see on this shirt.
