The all metal Junkers Ju 87 or Stuka, was a two-man German dive bomber & ground-attack aircraft.
Stuka’s were primarily bombers but were also used as instruments of fear. The terrifying wind powered ‘Jericho Trumpet’ wailing sirens were mounted to the leading edges of the Stuka’s landing gear & they became a potent propaganda symbol of German air power during the blitzkrieg of 1939–1942.
The Stuka's design included several innovative features, including auto pull-up dive brakes under both wings to ensure recovery from its attack dive even if the pilot blacked out from the high acceleration g-forces.
MAX MUMBLES SAYS: "The Ju 87 was too slow & heavy & had inadequate armour. Spitfires smoked them".
